Masoud Gharagozlu is an Iranian writer and director with a background in cinema and theatre. His artistic career began in 1999 through performance and choreography for stage, gradually evolving into film with a focus on psychological narratives and complex characters.

His works span film, television, and documentary, often exploring trauma, memory, and the unseen violence beneath ordinary life. Gharagozlu’s cinematic approach bridges psychological realism with noir atmospheres, crafting stories designed for international audiences far beyond geographical or cultural clichés.

In 2023, his television series Amsterdam (30 episodes) was halted mid-broadcast after 11 episodes aired due to censorship, reinforcing his commitment to independent storytelling and creative freedom.

The Therapist is his most ambitious project to date — a psychological crime drama rooted in human depth and cinematic tension, currently in development for international co-production.
